Origin of the
'Legacy of Service' project

"That's not clutter.

Those are military artifacts!"

For many years, military items were displayed on our unit’s walls without any context or identification. While the items themselves held meaning, their stories were lost. Without history, they went unnoticed.

In September 2023, during a unit meeting, a concern was raised about the visual clutter on the walls. One member quickly replied, “That’s not clutter — those are military artifacts!”

It was then proposed that a project be launched to identify the veterans connected to these unmarked artifacts. It soon became clear that the true focus should be on the personal stories of the veterans and their ties to significant events in military history. And so, the 'Legacy of Service' project was born.

Project Overview

Museum Display

Our curated exhibit showcases the stories and artifacts of veterans connected to Matsqui Unit 315, from the British Indian Army (1868) to modern-day military conflicts. Each artifact and biography offers a powerful lens into the lived experiences of service, sacrifice, and legacy. The display is designed to inform, educate, and inspire, preserving the human side of military history.

Digital Archive: 'No Veteran Shall Be Forgotten'

To ensure every veteran’s service is preserved, a companion digital archive is being developed on this website.  The archives is organized by eras of military conflict and searchable.  It Includes additional images, documents and personal stories contributed by families
